Red rock and what to wear

The infamous red rock landscapes of Southern Utah are eye candy for sure. The big question everyone finds themselves asking is-”What will I wear?”

Here are some colors that pair well with red rocks in St. George, Zion National Park and Snow Canyon.

  1. Cream-Flattering on almost all skin tones, photographs well and edits beautifully.

  2. Denim/Light blues, Turquoise-These colors are so complimenting for the red rock and adds so much character to styling. I will say turquoise is best worn as an accessory but if it is styled right it would be so cute.

  3. Sage greens, olive greens- Sage for lighter/happier emphasis, Olive for more moody and earthy/natural emphasis on the mood.

  4. Rusts- Rusts mirror the background and if worn, there should be greenery in the background. Overall such a beautiful color.

  5. Blacks or Dark browns- Earthy colors are a winner year round. Blacks should be styled properly or else you could get lost in the background.

  6. Tans, beige and browns-For every shoot-YES. These colors take the focal point from your clothes to your face and the storytelling. Make sure the colors you pick fit with your skin tone and make sure the rest of the outfits compliment to cool or warm tone of these colors.

Here are some colors I would NOT suggest

1. Navy blue-This will always edit black unless you hire a light and airy photographer who knows how to make it look good. It is a harsh color that doesn't harmonize well with other colors.

2. White- white picks up the colors of the red rock OR it can edit a purple/blue color that is very unflattering. White also is a harsh color on most skin tones while creamy white is a safe color for nearly all AND photographs well.

3. Anything neon-This is self explanatory. Don’t wear neons to any shoot unless it is an editorial shoot or an 80’s throwback shoot.

4. Black- I know this is on the wear list too but blacks require alot of well done styling and accessorizing. If this isn’t you and you don’t want to hire a stylist then I would look elsewhere.
